Signs of Spring

At our house, the forsythia is always the first thing to bloom, and a very welcoming sign that spring is officially here.

This lady bug was quite dirty - can you see the dirt on it's back? Maybe it's been playing around my kids!

Here's my little photography helper who is now an official READER. Mya read her first (easy reader) book today. She's very excited to be reading and we are very proud of her. Way to go, Mya!

Spring Break 2010

Gabriel had spring break this week (which is funny that you need a break when you're only in school one day.) so we canceled school at home as well and headed up to VA. The weather has been absolutely fantastic allowing for lots of outside play time.

Carrie, RuthAnne, and Will came over yesterday and today which was a big treat to get to play with the cousins. There's been lots of bike riding and playing at the park both at the church and going to the park.

Hopefully we've gotten all the spring fever out and now we can finish up strong the last couple months of school.

Alena - with shorter hair

Picnik collage
Alena was so excited about getting her hair cut last week, and she sat really still and let the girl do it. Whenever she is at the doctor, getting her haircut, anything like that she is really serious, sits really still, and doesn't smile or talk. I think it's pretty funny because she is never like that at home.

We probably could have had a little more cut off. Her hair is a very fine texture but she has a lot of it and it has a lot of body. I like it better short and it's easier to take care of too.

Long hair, short hair, no hair - I think we'll keep her!

The hats

It cracks me up that our kids like to wear these "bucket" hats instead of a regular 'ole baseball cap. Gabe has had the same one for 3 years and Mya has had hers 2 years. Alena's I just found when I was going through clothes (I believe it was RuthAnne's) but I think each one matches their personality very well. And, how nice to have a day that the sun was shining enough to actually need a hat!

I really like this picture better but a good thing to do when taking a picture is to notice what will be in the picture - like all the trash/recycling bins. Try to ignore them, though, and just focus on the hats...

Reading and 7 months

That is reading and 7 months not at 7 months - no teaching your baby to read around here :)

Mya and Alena were doing some early morning reading the other day - very early since Mya is still in her pj's and neither of them have their hair fixed. Alena was really into wearing that hood for some reason.

Here Alena is trying to fix the hood. They would take turns "reading" stories to each other. Mya actually remembers enough of a book to make it sound like she is reading Alena is pretty hit or miss with her "reading" but she has no shortage of words or ideas.

And I couldn't let Eden's 7 month mark pass without a few pictures.
tn_IMG_4233
Eden is not a pacifier or finger/thumb sucking baby but she does love her blanket and she always puts the silky side in her mouth.
